Customer Done -- Starting IMACS

As I mentioned in my blog the other day, I’m in the middle of another one of my combination trips where I visit a customer AND attend a conference. I just finished with the customer and today is the beginning of IMACS.

Finishing With the Customer
I just finished my visit with the customer. There were a few changes requested in the system and I started with a few things just to get something initial put-together as an example for the groups to consider what they wanted do with some of their future requests.

Even then, as I tell all customers when we appear to be finished, it’s not as if I’ve really gone anywhere. If they run into something they have a question on or need resent to them, they shouldn’t hesitate to contact me on it.

Sometimes, consultants go off to jobs with other companies than they’ve been working for and then they no longer have access to the work they did for a particular customer, which means they can’t do much to help that customer in the future. And it’s not usually fruitful to pass that along to another consultant at the company as they’re usually too busy with their own customers to figure out what’s going on with a customer they never worked with. If this is a concern for a customer, they should look for someone that has been with one company for some longer period of time, whether as an employee of a company or someone like me who has been working for my own company for over fifteen years, now. While that’s still no guarantee of future help and availability, it’s still one of the best ways to address his particular issue.

Thoughts on IMACS
I’ve noticed that IMACS has Velquest’s user group activities wrapped around it. While I’m interested in Velquest and their product, I’m hoping to find that the presentations aren’t too product-focused. In the schedule, I think I see opportunities for people to separately learn about Velquest’s product, so I get the impression that the middle portion, which is the bulk of this event, is more generally-focused on the topics going on in our industry. That’s what I’m hoping for, too.

One of the comments to my last blog post asked for a review of IMACS when it’s done and I’m already planning that I’ll blog about it when I’m back in my office, next week.
